Coley pulls ahead; wins straw poll at Oglethorpe GOP Anti-Tax Rally

Winder, GA – April 13, 2010 – Shane Coley, Republican candidate for Senate District 47 and Winder, GA resident won a straw poll taken at the Oglethorpe County Republican Party Anti-Tax Rally and Pancake Supper in Crawford, GA on April 10, 2010.

In the crowded 47th State Senate race, Coley took an overwhelming 48.8% of the vote followed by Kelley Gary at 26.3% and Pat Graham at 6.3%. Coley’s win was a marked improvement from the last Oglethorpe GOP straw poll at a similar event in September 2009 where Graham took 30%, Coley took 23% and Gary took 20%.

Coley said, “I am honored to have the support of so many in Oglethorpe County. Working Georgians understand that production is essential to economic recovery. They understand that misguided politicians and big government are the problem and productivity is the solution.”

The event attracted statewide candidates and local political figures alike. Over 100 people voted in the straw poll and participated in the Anti-Tax Rally put on by the Oglethorpe County GOP led by Chairman Kirk Shook.

Coley added, “My commitment is to defend Liberty and Production so that Georgians can prosper. Agriculture and Industry must be welcomed and the government forces which confiscate and waste our labor and profits must be defeated.” Coley is gaining a reputation for being an unwavering straight-shooter who says the same thing regardless of the setting.

The 47th State Senate district covers all of or parts of six counties in north Georgia: Barrow, Clarke, Elbert, Jackson, Madison, and Oglethorpe County. The last day to register to vote in the July 20, 2010 primary is June 21.
